In 2020 (the film’s futuristic setting), Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is a struggling former boxer who now operates second-hand sparring robots. After losing his expensive robot (Noisy Boy) to a bull, Charlie discovers a unique, small, forgotten generation-2 sparring robot named Atom. With the help of his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo), Charlie trains Atom to fight against the league champion, Zeus.
