“Six Feet of the Country” is a precise, morally acute story that uses the microcosm of a farm death to expose the macrocosm of apartheid’s inhumanity. The narrator demands the body be exhumed. He argues that his family has paid for a grave. The official tells him that in order to exhume and move a body, he would need a government permit, which is almost impossible to obtain.
