The movie revolves around the story of two people, Milan (John Abraham) and Aisha (Preity Zinta), who meet on a train. They strike up a conversation, and Aisha shares her traumatic experience of being thrown with acid by her lover, which left her disfigured. Milan, being a kind-hearted person, offers to help Aisha find her culprit and get justice.

The story takes a dramatic turn when Aisha is forced to marry an older man, and Abhimanyu is left heartbroken. In a desperate attempt to win Aisha back, Abhimanyu decides to use acid as a means to get her attention. He throws acid on Aisha's face, which leaves her severely disfigured.

The title Tezaab (Acid) is not merely a catchy word; it is the thematic core of the film. The story follows Mahesh Deshmukh (Anil Kapoor), a simple college student who falls for the beautiful Ganga (Madhuri Dixit).
