armor humming with a low, violet frequency. Episode 2, "The Iron Requiem," begins moments after her narrow escape from the previous skirmish. Her breathing is heavy, her HUD flickering with warnings of structural fatigue, but there is no time for repairs. The episode focuses on Annerose’s encounter with a rebel cyborg

The episode begins with Annerose struggling to control her powers. During a training session with her mentor, she accidentally causes a nearby iron beam to collapse, putting innocent bystanders at risk. Feeling defeated and worried about her abilities, Annerose begins to question whether she's truly cut out to be a great witch.

The first half of the episode masterfully establishes the brutal mundanity of this alternate WWI-esque setting. Annerose is assigned to the 407th Experimental Artillery Corps—a unit made up of other “failed” mage-augmented soldiers. The camaraderie is forced. The trust is zero. And the commanding officer, Colonel Siegfried, looks at Annerose like she’s a defective rifle that might still fire one good shot.

Annerose gets “leave” to visit the capital. Something tells me the political vultures are even worse than the artillery.
