In 2025, the world is under attack by Kaijus, gigantic monsters that emerge from a portal beneath the Pacific Ocean. To combat this threat, humanity develops Jaegers, huge robots controlled by two or more humans who share a neural connection. The story follows Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam), a former Jaeger pilot whose co-pilot and wife, Alice, was killed in a Kaiju attack. Raleigh is recruited by Marshal Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) to team up with a new co-pilot, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), a novice pilot with a troubled past.
